“CELL THERAPY” Short film
“Cell Therapy” was the second short film I made during the Classical Animation Program at Vancouver Film School. We were given about a month to make a digital film with 2D rigs, using either Toon Boom Harmony or Adobe Flash (now Adobe Animate). I chose to animate mine in Toon Boom Harmony.
I wanted to create a film that felt and looked very different from my traditionally animated “Beyond the Valley”. I decided to go with a very flat style reminiscent of some Adult Swim cartoons, and basically just film a dialogue between two contrasting characters. The film was based on a pun I had thought of with a friend many years prior while joking around about careers in science.

THE MAKING OF “CELL THERAPY”
I’ve included some of the process work for the film below. I knew that because the characters had to be 2D rigs, that they would have a flat look, and wanted to make sure that the other elements in the film matched that style. The characters and animation was all done in Toon Boom Harmony, and the backgrounds were digitally drawn and painted in Photoshop.
CHARACTER AND PROP DESIGNs:
When I graduated school, I wanted to be part of an adult animated series. With this in mind, I wanted my character designs to be reminiscent of current adult animated comedies such as Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites, and Futurama.
